Every believer will face a Goliath — moments that test faith, challenge identity, and expose what we truly believe about God. But the real battle isn’t fought on the battlefield; it’s fought in the heart before we ever face the giant.

1 Samuel Summary

The book of 1 Samuel focuses on three characters: Samuel, Saul, and David. A poem near the start of the book reveals the book’s key themes: God’s opposition to the proud, exultation of the humble, faithfulness in spite of evil, and the promise of a messianic king.

David & Goliath the Dragon

The prophet Daniel faced a number of trials during his time in captivity, but he always stayed true to his faith in God. In The Daniel Dilemma, Chris Hodges outlines the different ways Christians can use the lessons from Daniel to help us be faithful to God even when today's culture encourages us to do otherwise.

Daniel

The book of Daniel is apocalyptic literature that includes several strange visions that point to the coming Son of Man, the messianic King who will deliver Israel and the nations. Daniel is also about hope and faith in the midst of exile, as Daniel remains faithful to Yahweh and hopeful for the restoration of Israel.

the way of the exile

If followers of Jesus are to give their total allegiance to God’s Kingdom, how should they relate to the governments and power structures of their own day? The experience of Daniel and his friends in Babylonian exile offers wisdom for navigating this tension. Following Jesus in our modern age means learning how to live in the way of the exile.
